Art in the Park

In 2014 resident (and former Town Councillor) Iain McLauchlan approached the Town Council with an idea for an art project in Wades Park.  The project involved installing a number of boards on the fence line between Wades Park and the railway line.  The boards would show off local artists' talents whilst enhancing a dull-looking fence.

Art in the Park is now in its 9th year and has expanded from an original display of 6 artists to an extensive display of talent from over 37 local artists.  We have an exceptional selection of art covering a wide range of subjects and different media.

Entries for 2023 are now on display and our Art in the Park winner for 2023 is Steven Aldus! Steven submitted "Female with Afro" which is a spray can and airbrush piece.

Steven's work is heavily influenced by his graffiti artist past (mid 1980's) and so his love of vibrant colour has always been prominent in his artwork. This particular piece is large and it measures 1.5m by 1m, to get the impact he felt that this size was important. It is not based on any particular person but he just lives the way it has a "vintage" feel with a modern twist.

Thank you to our ongoing sponsor local retailer, Cymbeline Art & Cards for their generous prize of an Annual Membership to the Royal Academy.
