Commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day)

Published: 07 August 2025

This year marks the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day), commemorating Japan’s surrender on 15 August 1945 and the end of the Second World War.

While VE Day in May 1945 marked the end of the war in Europe, many Armed Forces personnel were still engaged in intense conflict in the Far East. VJ Day honours their sacrifice and the heavy cost of final victory.

Princes Risborough Town Council will take part in the national two-minute silence at 12:00 PM on Friday 15 August 2025, to remember all those who served and sacrificed.

The Market House bell will be rung at 12:00 PM to mark the start of the silence and rung again at the end.

The Town Mayor and Chairman, Councillor Matthew Walsh, will lead the silence from beneath the Market House in Market Square.

All are welcome to join us in this act of remembrance.
