Latest News from the Princes Centre

As a result of the recent away-day work undertaken by the trustees, there are many plans ahead for the future of the centre. We will be recruiting a senior support worker to work at Bourne End and have agreed that we ‘champion’ staff in specific fields and offer training for the role ie. Dementia champion, Learning Disability champion, safeguarding and H&S champions, enabling staff to gain recognised skills and knowledge. The staffing ratio will change from 1 staff member covering 6 clients to 1 to 5 for the older clients. Future growth plans and improvement projects have also been agreed upon.

As well as their usual activities, some of the clients were recently involved with preparing for Halloween doing pumpkin carving and Halloween baking. Outdoor activities such as swimming, tennis and bowls continue for those clients who enjoy them. The woodwork group are busy preparing some items to sell at the Christmas light switch on. The younger clients are making preparations to host a ‘Centre’s got Talent’ to entertain the older clients on December 1st and you are invited to come along and support their efforts.  The Jinglers will be entertaining at St Mary’s on Friday 26th November at 10 am and we hope that you will come along and support them.

We are very appreciative of a large donation from a local resident given to enable the replacement of the curtains and the purchase of a larger TV screen for the Peter Robinson Hall. The larger screen will enable hard of hearing clients to read the wording easier.

We have also received a generous grant from the Peter Harrison Foundation and a £5,000 grant offer towards the cost of installing solar panels next summer. This is funded through the European Regional Development Fund and delivered by Ngage Solutions Ltd, a subsidiary of Buckinghamshire Business First.   The installation of solar panels will be one of the projects aimed at reducing our carbon footprint.

A fundraising quiz & curry night is being organised to be held on Friday 28th January 7pm for a 7.30 start. It is good fun and our first opportunity in 2 years to hold a quiz. We do hope you and your friends will attend. Please advise our manager Kim if you would like to come.

Another way to support the centre is to participate in Buckinghamshire Council’s monthly lottery with tickets costing just £1 each. We are the charity they are currently supporting with 50% of the ticket money being donated to us. It is an easy way to support the centre so why not take part and raise money for our own centre! The lottery offers fantastic prizes, please take a look. The link to buy tickets is;

New volunteers are always welcome. If you wish to offer help in any way or are interested in your loved ones to come and have a free taste of what is offered at the Centre, please contact Kim our manager on 01844 345105.
